Journalist to civil servant: Meet Swati Snigdha Suar who cracked OPSC exam in fourth attempt

Bhubaneswar: Just like UPSC, cracking Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) Odisha Civil Services (OCS) examination is a dream for many aspirants in Odisha. It is one of the toughest exams in the state conducted every year to recruit candidates for Odisha Administrative Services. Every year thousands of aspirants appear in the OCS exam, but only a few hundred manage to clear it. From the few hundred, here is one of the success stories of Swati Snigdha Suar.

Swati, who comes from a Puri sevayat (temple servitor) family, worked as a journalist in many organisations including OrissaPOST. Later, she shifted her career to content management. As content manager, she was recruited by a reputed firm in Bengaluru. There, she was remunerated a handsome salary from the job. Later, she got married and her responsibility for her family increased manifold. Swati says that her aspiration for the service for the OPSC began after her marriage.

Swati, who cracked the prestigious examination on her fourth attempt, thanked her husband for encouraging her throughout her preparation days. In her first three attempts, she cleared all the prelims, but could not crack the mains.

According to Swati, her career as a journalist helped her to become aware of governance, policy-making, policy implementation, and other important issues prevalent in the country.

As a civil servant, Swati aspires to work for the betterment of the public and the benefit of the larger masses. She believes that “Success does not come exclusive of failures.”
