Malkangiri: Vigilance sleuths conducted raids Tuesday on some properties of a junior engineer (JE) of the Water Resources Department in this district on charges of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income, officials said Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Sanjay Kumar Mohanty. Among the places where raids were conducted were Mohanty’s rented house and office. During the raids officials seized Rs 1,48,000 in cash, a motorcycle, 30 ATM cards, passbooks of different banks and other important documents from Mohanty’s house.
Documents regarding a three-story house in the name of a relative of Mohanty were also seized. Officials said that Mohanty owns two acres of land at Jaleswar in Balasore district. A simultaneous raid was also conducted in Bhubaneswar at the house of Mohanty’s in-laws. The sleuths also found Mohanty to be the owner of a flat and a four-wheeler. It has been alleged that Mohanty demanded commission from contractors for allotting their work. Those who did not pay were denied contracts. An additional SP, three DSPs, and eight inspectors were part of the raiding teams.
