Khuntuni: A retired teacher was admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital and later to a private hospital Thursday after a wild elephant attacked him in the morning.
The injured, identified as Dayanidhi Mishra, 82, of Kali Sasan Sahi, was refreshing himself at a tube well near his residence when the pachyderm came from the rear and flung him to a distance of 10 ft. Hearing the scream of Mishra’s daughter-in-law, who witnessed the incident, villagers rushed to the spot and rescued the injured.
The villagers shooed away the pachyderm into the nearby forest.
Sources said Mishra sustained injuries in his head, ribs, lower abdomen and other parts of the body. He was rushed to SCBMCH in a 108 ambulance.
Khuntuni divisional forest officer (DFO) Maguni Charan Behera sent Forest department officials of Oranda section Rakesh Dalai, Ramakanta Balabantray and Pradip Sahu to the spot and assured all kinds of medical assistance to the victim’s family.
