Jumbo tramples woman to death

Elephants on damaging spree

Narla (Kalahandi): A day after five people were killed by a tusker, a woman was trampled to death by an elephant in a forest near Sripalli village under Narla Police limits in Kalahandi district early Saturday morning. The deceased has been identified as Banita Podha.

According to sources, Banita had gone to the nearby forest along with her daughter at around 6 am Saturday. While Banita was busy collecting ‘Mahua’ flower, a pachyderm attacked her suddenly, trampling her to death on the spot.

However, her daughter was unhurt in the incident. On being informed, Narla forest officials reached the spot and launched a probe into the matter, sources said.
