Cuttack, Jan 27: Justice RK Patra, who is heading the commission of inquiry probing the multi-core chit fund scam in Orissa, has been placed on ventilator support at the SCB Medical College and Hospital here.
He was admitted to the hospital after he complained of chest pain. According to sources in the SCB, Patra, who was the former chief justice of Sikkim High Court, has been diagnosed with pneumonia and respiratory problems.
‘‘A team of doctors, comprising cardiology, medicine and anesthesia has been formed under Dr CBK Mohanty to monitor the case. We hope he will recover soon,’’ Health minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak who visited Justice Patra in the hospital said Monday. His condition remains critical, sources added.
Meanwhile, SCB Medical College and Hospital emergency officer Bhubanananda Mishra said, ‘‘Justice Patra is undergoing treatment and his vital signs are stable at the moment but his condition is critical.’’
The state government in November gave six months’ extension to the one-man commission set up in July 2013 following a furore as the chit fund companies vanished overnight after duping thousands of gullible investors.
