Kalahandi registers first COVID death Sunday

Bhawanipatna: Kalahandi, one of the least coronavirus-affected districts in Odisha, Sunday registered its first death.

According to details released by state health department, the deceased was a 62-year-old male who was suffering from disseminated Tuberculosis and drug-induced Hepatitis.

The district Sunday reported 18 fresh cases. With this, the district’s COVID tally has gone up to 255. While 106 patients have so far been discharged from COVID hospitals following their recoveries, 148 are still undergoing treatment.

The infected persons have been shifted to COVID hospital and a process has been initiated to collect swab samples of their close family members.

Notably, the state’s COVID toll is inching towards 200 mark with 10 more deaths reported Sunday. As of Sunday, as many as 197 persons have fallen to the contagion.

Ganjam continues at the top with 103 deaths, followed by Khurda at 28, Cuttack 11, Gajapati 11, Sundargarh 10, Rayagada seven, Puri, Nayagarh and Balasore- three each, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Kendrapada, Malkangiri, Jagatsinghpur and Angul-two each and Bargarh, Jhasuguda, Kalahandi, and Sambalpur-one each.
