Khurda: Cash and ornaments worth over Rs 3 lakh were stolen from the Kali temple at Gurujanga under Khurda Town police limits here late Tuesday night, a senior police official said Wednesday.
According to sources, the stolen items include gold and silver ornaments besides cash over Rs 3 lakh. “The desperadoes made away with one gold and two silver crowns, three gold necklaces, a few eyes and a tongue made of gold, and a few silver ornaments from the almirah. They also decamped with cash after breaking open the donation box,” the police official said quoting a temple servitor.
The heist came to light in the morning following which the police were informed and a team of Town police conducted preliminary investigations. Later, a forensic team, accompanied by a sniffer dog, joined the probe, sources said.
