Bhubaneswar: The state government Monday decided to enhance the seating capacity of Kalinga Stadium from 5,000 to 15,000 in view of hosting FIH Hockey World League Final-2017 and Men’s World Cup-2018.
This was revealed at a high-level meeting under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi here Monday.
Padhi reviewed the progress of preparations for the upcoming hockey matches and directed the officials concerned to do detailing of each of the activity and monitor those till completion of the tournament. He also asked the officials to take all necessary steps for commissioning of the projects before the schedule date.
It was decided that utilities and changing rooms for practising players would be developed while entry and internal roads of the stadium will undergo an expansion. Public transport would be improved while special bus routes and trips would be planned by Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) in collaboration with tourism department. International food festivals and international open air cultural programnmes would also be organised.
Besides, a special musket would be developed for branding the event along with Orissa tourism. According to preliminary estimates, around `89.5 crore would be spent for organising both the events.
