After a gap of two decades, producers and directors have again shown their interests to shoot movie sequences at the studio
Bhubaneswar: Kalinga Studio which was instrumental in bringing a new era to the Odia film industry in the 90s is all set to regain its lost glory.
After a gap of two decades, producers and directors have again shown their interests to shoot movie sequences at Kalinga Studio.
The super cyclone of 1999 had caused extensive damage to the studio. Since then, it had been lying in a dilapidated condition. It may be mentioned here that recently, the Odisha Film Development Corporation (OFDC) took steps to repair and renovate the studio.
OFDC sources claimed that the outdoor and indoor sequences of altogether 10 movies were shot at the studio in the last three months. “The producers and directors of both big and small budget movies have shown their interest to shoot at Kalinga Studio. At present, the shooting of movie Hiralal Motilal and Bijubabu is going on at full pace at the studio. We hope that the studio would once again become a sought-after place for Odia film producers,” said a source at the OFDC.
The OFDC has completed repair work to some structures at the studio. It has reconstructed the village complex and redesigned several other structures to give a fresh look to the studio. “We are now repairing the makeup and costume room at the studio. The construction work of four cottages has reached the last phase. The Idco and R & B division are doing the repair and renovation work,” added the source.
It is learnt that the authorities concerned have planned to arrange all types of modern equipment and facilities at Kalinga Studio to attract moviemakers. “Soon, the studio will have a beautiful garden and attracting lighting system. We are also mulling to construct a village pond and a swimming pool here,” said an OFDC official.
OFDC chairman Kuna Tripathy said they are planning to set up a dubbing laboratory at the studio. “The state government is providing all sorts of help for the revival of Kalinga Studio,” he added.
