New Delhi: In the wake of elevation of Orissa High Court Chief Justice Vineet Saran to the apex court, Rajasthan HC Justice Kalpesh Satyendra Jhaveri has been elevated and posted as Chief Justice of Orissa HC.
Justice Jhaveri was elevated as a judge of Gujarat High Court in March, 2004, and was confirmed as a permanent judge in June, 2005. He was then transferred to the Rajasthan High Court in August, 2016, and will now take charge as the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court.
According to a law department notification, Calcutta HC Justice Annirudha Bose has been elevated as the Chief Justice of Jharkhand HC. An earlier recommendation of the Supreme Court collegium to appoint Justice Bose as the Chief Justice of Delhi HC was turned down by the government, citing lack of experience of the judge. Justice Vijaya K Tahilramani, a judge of the Bombay HC, has been elevated as the Chief Justice of the Madras HC. She succeeds Justice Indira Banerjee, who has been elevated to the top court. Justice Hrishikesh Roy of the Kerala HC has been elevated as its Chief Justice.
Justice MK Shah of Gujarat HC has been elevated as Chief Justice of the Patna HC as the incumbent, Justice Rajendra Menon, will now head the Delhi HC.
Justice Geeta Mittal has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, becoming the first woman judge in the history of the state to head it. She has been the acting Chief Justice of the Delhi HC till now.
Earlier, three high court chief justices including Uttarakhand HC Chief Justice KM Joseph were appointed to the SC Saturday, ending a protracted standoff between the government and the judiciary. The warrants of appointment of the three High Court chief justices were signed by President Ram Nath Kovind Friday night.
