Kandhamal youth held for trafficking girls

Daringbadi: Police Tuesday arrested a labour agent on the charge of trafficking two innocent girls and engaging them as domestic helps at the house of a persons in Kerala.

He was identified as Bilsan Digal alias Ricky Nayak of Baligada village under K. Nuagaon block in Kandhamal district.

According to sources, Ricky convinced two poor girls of his village of lucrative salaries and took them to Kerala where he sold them to a person. The two girls were allegedly engaged as domestic helps in that person’s house.

When the girls objected, they were tortured and made to work under harsh conditions. They were not allowed to contact their family members for months together.

However, the girls somehow managed to escape from the house and reach the local railway station. From there they took a train and returned to their village. While roaming around aimlessly without any tickets, they were spotted by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and handed over to a child protection unit that informed the local Childline. Subsequently, a Childline team reached Kerala and rescued the girls.

The girls were then handed over to their family members, who lodged a complaint against Ricky. However, he has been absconding since the case was lodged against him.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a sudden raid and arrested him when he had come to the village for some work. Further probe into the incident is on, Daringbadi IIC Tusharkant Mahapatra said.
