Karnataka spinners choke Odisha

Suryakant Pradhan hits a six against Karnataka in Cuttack, Thursday

Cuttack: Odisha failed to maintain their winning streak as they were choked by Karnataka spinners KC Cariappa (4/15) and V Koushik (3/8) losing by 51 runs in their Group D encounter in the Syed Mustaq Ali T20 tournament here at the Barabati Stadium, Thursday.

Sent into bat first, Karnataka rode on a fine knock by opener Rohan Kadam (89, 59b, 10×4, 2×6) who notched up his third half century of the tournament to post 155/9 in 20 overs.

Though wickets kept tumbling at the other end, Kadam held his fort and batted till the final over to lead his side to a challenging total. Sreyas Gopal (17) was the second highest scorer for the visitors. For Odisha, spinner Pappu Roy (2/21) and Biplab Samantray (2/10) starred with the ball.

In reply, Odisha batsmen put up a sloppy display and failed to get going to be eventually bundled out for 104 in 18.1 overs with leg-spinner Cariappa and medium pacer Koushik inflicting the bulk of the damage.

The hosts’ batsmen never got going as they lost half of their side inside 10 overs with paltry 40 runs on the board. However Suryakant Pradhan (32) did try his best but was unable to get able support from his teammates.

Brief Scores: Karnataka 155/9 (Rohan Kadam 89; Biplab Samantray 2/10, Pappu Roy 2/21) bt Odisha 104 in 18.1 overs (Suryakant Pradhan 32; KC Cariappa 4/15, V Koushik 3/8) by 51 runs.
