Keonjhar: Keonjhar police have devised a new way to check traffic violations. Days after experimenting with awareness rallies and offering of roses to errant bikers and drivers, the police have now introduced a reward system for citizens who obey traffic rules.
Those following traffic rules in its true spirit are being given citations and cash reward of Rs 100. This is expected to encourage people to obey traffic rules.
Police claimed that this is the first of its kind move in the state.
During observance of Traffic Safety Week Friday, Ananta Narayan Kuanr was the first to receive Rs 100 and a citation from the IIC of Town police station, Ranjan Kumar Biswal.
The winner will be eligible to get this award only if found wearing a helmet, has not consumed alcohol, and produce driving licence, vehicle insurance and registration certificates during checking.
Keonjhar police had got Rs 3 lakh as prize for their remarkable traffic and road safety awareness drives and traffic management at the recent meeting of IPS officials.
ASI Umakant Sahu said SP Jaynarayan Pankaj had ordered to introduce the system. Many have welcomed the move.
Imposing penalty on traffic violators is not the intention of the police. Drivers who carefully obey traffic rules have to be rewarded, the police said.
