Keonjhar youths provide food to Covid-infected families

Keonjhar: At a time when people are turning their faces away from Covid patients and their families, some youths of Keonjhar town joined hands to supply cooked food to Covid-infected families. They say it gives them immense pleasure and mental satisfaction.

There are many such families in the town that have more than one Covid patients. They can neither cook food in their houses nor can go out to get it.

“Realising the situations in such families, we decided to do something for them,” informed Bijay Behera, a member of the group and a teacher by profession.

The members are circulating their numbers on social media platforms like Facebook etc, requesting families in distress to contact them for cooked food.

“We are less bothered about getting the infection and more concerned about the families in distress. But, we make sure that we followed all the Covid guidelines while delivering food at the doorstep of the affected families,” explained Behera.

Monday was their first day and they received as many as seven calls. They had delivered meals for 27 persons at the given addresses. They had even distributed food packets to some poor people.

The members are sure that they will get more calls in coming days. Now there are ten volunteers. The food items are being cooked at a place. Then they are packed. Thereafter, the members are supplying these packets at the given addresses on bikes.

“Our efforts are being appreciated. As of now, people are showing interest to join us,” Behera added. “We are planning to supply dinner as well. We have requested the families to inform us early regarding their food requirement so that the food items won’t get destroyed. However, we have decided to feed stray dogs and cattle with the left-over food,” informed Manas Panda, a member who is also a businessman.
