Keonjhar’s COVID-19 tally inches towards 1000-mark with 56 fresh cases; 52 local cases spark fears

Keonjhar: With 56 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported from Keonjhar district Thursday, the district’s tally is fast inching towards the 1000 mark.

The district’s tally now stands at 992.

What has been the cause of concern for both the administration and local residents is that out of 56 fresh cases, 52 patients have contracted the virus locally.

While the administration is yet to give the details about the local cases, all the patients have so far been shifted to COVID-19 hospitals. This apart, while close relatives of these patients have been asked to isolate themselves, lists of those who came in contact with these patients are under preparation.

Of the total 56 positive cases reported Thursday, only four were from quarantine centres. Among the total 992 cases, 689 patients have so far been discharged from COVID-19 hospitals and 299 patients are undergoing treatment.

The district’s death toll due to the pandemic now stands at two with the death of one more patient due to the virus Thursday. Apart from this, the district has so far reported two deaths due to reasons other than COVID-19.
