Bhubaneswar: The 10-day-long Khandagiri Mela that kick-started February 12 at the foothills of Khandagiri has been drawing crowds in good numbers every day. However, absence of traffic arrangement at the accident-prone Khandagiri Square here is putting the lives of the visitors are at stake.
Vehicles were seen plying dangerously at the square early Saturday morning, which was foggy.
The Commissionerate Police has made elaborate security arrangements at the fair as per the instructions by the BMC authorities. CCTVs have been installed to keep vigil on anti-social activities.
However, the traffic at Khandagiri Square has been haywire.
The opera viewers are facing inconvenience during their return from the shows early in the morning. Many locals demanded that the police should deploy traffic personnel at the Khandagiri Square in order to manage the traffic during small hours of the day.
Speaking to Orissa POST, deputy commissioner of police, Anup Sahu said, “Normally traffic remains poor during the early hours. So, we don’t deploy traffic personnel during those hours. However, if there is some traffic problem due to the fair, we will look into it and take steps to ensure smooth management of traffic at the square.”
