Nuapada: As the summer is approaching, water woes of residents of Khariar Road civic area are increasing. Khariar Road is located near the border of Chhattisgarh, which is one of the prime business towns of Nuapada district.
Insufficient water supply has been troubling people for a month and now residents of Ward 3 and 4 are complaining of water supply shortage.
The residents of Ward No- 10, 14 (Dumerdihi), 15 (Khopetara), 16 (Patel Nagar) and 17 (Mongrapali), in the Khariar Road city are middle or poor class families. Hence, most of them are left with no other choice but to depend upon the civic body’s water supply. Jonka River water is supplied to these areas through a pump-house on its river bank.
Some of the residents are managing their requirements by fetching water from nearby wells. Water from tube wells does not cater to their needs as it is said to be high in fluoride content.
When contacted, PHD engineer Ashok Kumar Behera said, “Riverbed is gradually receding and drying up due to the approaching summer, which has made water supply a cumbersome affair. In such a situation, we have arranged to restore water supply to all areas through tankers.”
