Bhubaneswar: Amidst heavy public outrage, Odisha police DG BK Sharma has said that Central range IG Soumendra Priyadarshi will supervise the investigation into the murder of BJP leader Manguli Jena.
Speaking to reporters Monday Sharma said, “We have already formed four police teams that are being assisted by forensic and crime branch teams. Our main focus right now is to identify and arrest the culprit”.
Questioned about the possible motives behind the murder, Sharma refused to divulge any information and said, “Investigation is still in its primary stages. We are looking at all possible angles”.
IG Priyadarshi assured the public that investigation is in full swing and raids are being conducted at various places to nab the culprits.
He further added that police protection will be given to BJP’s Khurda Assembly seat candidate along with anyone else who applies for it.
It may be mentioned here that a local BJP leader – identified as Manguli Jena – was shot dead late Sunday night in Khurda town. The town has been on a boil since. The saffron party had accused BJD’s role in the murder and had called for six-hour bandh to protest against the alleged political violence.
