Bhubaneswar: Khurda district has emerged as a COVID-19 hotspot next only to Ganjam district.
Bhubaneswar had reported its first coronavirus case, March 15. However, there was a lull for about two months when not a single positive case emerged from the state capital. However, since then the numbers have been on the rise. The worrying factor is that positive cases are emerging not only from this city, but also from other parts of Khurda district.
Odisha reported 736 new COVID-19 positive cases Sunday. Out of those, Ganjam registered 247 new cases while Khurda accounted for 107.
Ganjam district’s total COVID-19 tally has gone up to 5,527 cases. For Khurda district the number stands at 1,972. The numbers of active cases in Ganjam and Khurda are 1,915 and 862 respectively while recovery stands at 3,554 and 1,090 cases respectively. The death toll due to coronavirus in Ganjam district is 54 while 13 people have fallen prey to the disease in Khurda district.
