New Delhi: Children between the ages of 15 and 18 can register on the CoWIN app from January 1 for vaccination. This is according to information available from the government Monday morning.
Dr RS Sharma, the chief of the CoWIN platform, was quoted as saying by ANI that provision had been made on the app for students to use their ID cards to register because some may not have Aadhaar cards.
Children can get vaccinated against the coronavirus from January 3, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Saturday. He said that this would boost the fight against the virus and help schools across India return to normal.

India is currently grappling to spread the Omicron variant of the coronavirus. So far more than 500 people have tested positive for the latest mutant of the virus. Numbers are expected to rise as people are disregarding protocols to check Covid-19 in the festive season. The number of positive Omicron cases has grown significantly in states like Maharashtra.
As per sources, the government has targeted to vaccinate approximately 7.5 crore children in the 15-18 years age group in the month of January. Along with them, health and frontline workers will also be given booster shots. However, they will get the shots only after completion of 9-12 months time frame after receiving the second dose.
