Udala: In yet another case of blind faith prevailing in remote parts of the state, the family of a woman who died from snakebite Wednesday tried to bring her back to life by performing black magic.

According to sources, Aarti Majhi (50) from Kathaphala village under Udala police limits in Mayurbhanj district had been bitten by a venomous snake Wednesday. Family members rushed her to the Udala hospital where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

However, instead of cremating the body, the victim’s family members subjected it to black magic after being misguided by a local sorcerer, who ‘assured’ them of bringing the dead back to life.

As the efforts of the sorcerer went in vain, the body was cremated later.
