KISS judokas hog limelight

Winners of State Open Judo Championships pose with their medals along with guests in Bhubaneswar, Sunday    

Bhubaneswar: Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) emerged with the highest number of medals (33) including 12 gold while Sambalpur (17) and Bhubaneswar (10) finished second and third respectively in the State Open Judo Championships, which concluded here Sunday.

The championships also served as a selection trial for sub-junior boys and girls as 29 gold medal winners have been selected to represent Odisha in the Sub-Junior National Judo Championships at Una, Himachal Pradesh, in the first week of September.

Sselected players: (Girls) Debasini Ping, Sumitra Munda, Anshika Jhunjhunwala, Maisha Nayak, Ourja Dash, Gayatri Sabar, Sapna Topno, Raimani Soren, Arati  Dalai, Mukta Munda, Arati Gope, Sulendri Chalan, Tanisha Agrawal, Sunidhi Sahu; (Boys) Soumya Ranjan Giri, Falgun Kumar Agrawal, Ayush Ansuman, Saswat Soumya Brata, Ishan Kumar Pradhan, Nikesh Pujari, Jaysingh Majhi, Nitya Majhi, Jitendra Behera, Maheswar Mandal, Kaushak Lakra, Sankar Majhi, Chandan Charan Das, Ashish Agrawal and Sambit Das.

Wushu meet

Jharshuguda District Wushu Association and Wushu Association of Odisha will jointly organise the 26th State Wushu Championship at Belpahar, August 17-19. The tournament will be played under six categories. Based on the performances in this tournament, players will be selected for the National Senior Wushu Championships in Coimbatore, October 10-15.

Kabaddi tourney

Odisha Kabaddi Association will organise the 45th Junior State Boys’ and Girls’ Kabaddi Championships at Aska, Ganjam, August 31-September 2. Players from all the districts of the state will take part in the tournament.

Team announced

Odisha Bodybuilding Association announced Monday an 11-member Odisha team for the upcoming 52nd Asian and Xth World Bodybuilding Championships.
