Nayagarh: If village lanes and by-lanes are devoid of scenes like children playing, it’s no surprise. The fact behind this sudden shift in scenes is due to the two recent cases of minor girls being killed by miscreants, forcing parents to keep their children indoors.
According to advocate Amiya Patnaik, the police’ investigation in cases relating to minors going missing or being killed left a lot to be desired. The police are not giving as much importance to such complaints as they ought to and the recent Pari and Swati cases have proven it. This is the reason why people’s dependence on police is constantly declining.
“At the same time, the police department is also short staffed which is cramping its style. The Mahila and Shishu desks are in name only,” he rued.
Nayagarh District Congress president Ranjit Dash said a strange sort of fear has gripped the parents across the district. As a precaution to avoid Pari and Swati like fate visiting upon their children, they have already stopped allowing their children to play outside.
Echoing the same, BJP District president Lala Manoj Ray said the Pari death case points to the police’ failure. Our party will continue its fight till justice is delivered to Pari’s family.
CPI (M) leader Bishwanath Mohapatra accused the government of playing down a sensitive case like the Pari death case, allowing the culprit in the Pari death case to roam freely.
Notably, in both cases, Pari and Swati went missing while playing with friends near their houses.
