Koksara villagers panicked over spread of kidney diseases

Koksara:  Hundreds of persons in Ladoogaon under Koksara block in Kalahandi district are suffering from kidney diseases, but the reason behind outbreak of the disease still remains a mystery.

Locals said that some people in the village were suffering from the disease since a year back. The cause of such high incidence of kidney ailment in the area is yet to be ascertained as the administration has not initiated any exercise to find the reason, the villagers said.

Sources said, Rainu Nial, 60, died due to kidney ailment six months back. Another patient, Bhagirathi Nial, 58, is suffering from the deadly disease and has been admitted to SCBMCH in Cuttack.

It has been learnt that some other people in the panchyat are also suffering from this disease, but the Ladoogaon Primary Health Center is unable to provide them with adequate healthcare. Hence, in the absence of any alternative, the villagers are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Visakhapatnam.

The rapid spread of the disease has given rise to panic among the villagers here. They have demanded that the administration initiate immediate steps to identify the reason behind the spread of the disease and provide them with effective healthcare.

When Kalahandi CDMO Banalata Devi was asked to comment on the issue, she said, “We will send a medical team to the panchyat to check the toxicity levels of the water in the tube-wells and take necessary steps after getting the test report.”
