Cuttack, Jan 12: Kaushik Patel of Gujarat bowled well and Sidhant Purohit of Himachal Pradesh batted brilliantly to put their teams on top in the four-day long quarterfinal matches of the All India U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy played at different grounds here Monday.
At the Ravenshaw Ground, Punjab were dismissed for 258 runs with Subham Gill (78) emerging as the highest scorer against Gujarat. Kaushik (7/50) was the wrecker-in-chief for Gujarat. In reply, Gujurat were 58 for the loss of one wicket at stumps.
At Nimpur Ground, Himachal Pradesh (HP) scored 229 runs for the loss of five wickets against Madhya Pradesh. The team lost three quick wickets for 44 runs, but Purohit (100) hit a patient century, while Vaibhav Sharma (64) scored a half century to bail out Himachal from the batting debacle.
