Bhubaneswar: Noted charitable organisation Zain Foundation Trust (ZFT) will present the Hindi/English play Dhumrapaan here at Rabindra Mandap, Friday.
The event is part of ZFT’s annual fundraiser to support people living with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Written by Adhir Bhatt, directed by Akarsh Khurana and headlined by famous Hindi film and theatre actor Kumud Mishra, the play is a hilarious take on the rate race at corporate offices. The cast also includes Shubrahyoti Barat, Ghanshyam Lalsa, Siddhnarth Kumar, Tarruk Raina, Sarthal Kakkar and Ashmita Meghrajani.
Kumud has won millions of hearts for his poignant portrayals in movies such as Rockstar, Raanjhanaa, Sriram Badlapur, Sultan, Airlift, Rustom, Article 15 and most recently Lust Stories 2 opposite Kajol.
For the uninitiated, autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder, occurring in the alarming ratio of 1: 36, the world over. A person with autism experiences a handicap in areas of communication, socialisation and imagination, while battling with severe sensory discrepancies. Unconditional love and support, social acceptance of the condition, remedial cognitive/behavioural therapies and appropriate training are the only ways to integrate this growing community into our social fabric, in a dignified and respectful manner.
Ever since its formation in 2015, ZFT has initiated plenty of advocacy and awareness exercises, successfully both in the state and nationally, through workshops, rallies, sporting events, art exhibitions and specially curated inclusive events, as it moves towards its mission of raising eastern India’s very first residential facility for the autism community.
Other plays organised by ZFT in previous years include Kaifi Aur Mein( Shabana Azmi & Javed Akhtar) in 2015, Einstein (Naseeruddin Shah) in 2016, Siddhus of Upper Juhu( Rajit Kapoor, Shishir Sharma & Shenaz Patel) in 2017, Two Adorable Losers (Darsheel Safary & Abhishek Patnaik) in 2018, King Lear (Vinay Pathak) in 2021 and One on One ( Rajit Kapoor, Vrajesh Hirji, Sumeet Vyas) in 2022.
