Jeypore: A three-member panel led by Koraput district and sessions judge–cum–commissioner Bidyut Kumar Mishra probing the Kunduli gangrape and suicide case would submit its report to the state government by September 25, according to government advocate Prabhakar Patnaik.
The last phase recording of statements was completed with the appearance of Dr Prabhat Kumar Padhi, a doctor of SCB Medical College and Hospital of Cuttack, who had administered treatment to the victim.
The victim had received treatment at the SCB for some days and she needed more medical attention. However, her mother, in the presence of former MP Pradip Majhi, refused to continue with the treatment of the Class IX girl at the hospital and requested the authorities to discharge her immediately. Accordingly, the patient was discharged, said Dr Padhi in his statement.
At least 15 witnesses on behalf of the government were deposed before the commission in connection with the case. The government lawyer would argue the case before the commission August 29, said Patnaik.
As the tenure of the commission is ending September 25, it would submit the report to the home department before that, he added.
The Class IX girl of Kunduli under Pottangi police limits was allegedly gangraped October 10 last year. Four jawans were involved in the incident, alleged the family members. Later, the girl ended her life after failing to get justice, the family further said.
Realising the gravity of the case, the state government appointed a judicial commission to probe the matter.
Since then, the statements of 15 persons including the doctor, police, forensic team members and handwriting experts have been recorded. Besides, four family members of the victim had also appeared before the commission and recorded their statements.
All eyes are now on the report of the commission to know the final outcome of the case.
