Bhubaneswar: The state government Friday extended the tenure of the Commission of Inquiry probing the alleged gang rape of a minor girl in Kunduli by another three months.
A notification to this effect was issued by the Home Department. This is the second extension granted to the Commission whose current tenure was to end June 25.
The minor girl was allegedly gang-raped by four men in uniform inside the forest in Kunduli area October 10 last year. The victim later committed suicide at home in her native village Musaguda in Koraput district January 22 this year. The incident had led to widespread protests in the district.
Subsequently, the state government constituted a Commission of Inquiry December 26 last year led by the Koraput District & Sessions Judge to probe into the sequence of events that led to the purported crime, the person(s) responsible for the incident and any other matter connected with the incident.
The commission was asked to submit its report within three months. However, after its tenure expired March 25, the Home Department extended the Commission’s tenure by three months March 26, 2018.
