Labourer electrocuted, 2 others critically injured

Bhanjanagar: A labourer was killed and two others were critically injured after coming in contact with high tension wires in Mudulipalli panchayat here in Ganjam district Monday.

The deceased was identified as Narayan Gouda of Jilundi.

According to sources, the incident took place in the morning when the trio was engaged in a construction work of Mudulipalli panchayat.

Sources said Gouda along with three other labourers was carrying iron rods onto the roof of an under-construction building on the Mudulipalli panchayat office premises when one of the rods accidentally touched an 11 KV high tension wire running above the building.

Gouda was killed on the spot after directly coming in contact with the high voltage wire while the three others fell off the building after receiving electric shock.

While two of them — Jay Pradhan and Bikas Sethy of Mudulipalli village — were severely injured and admitted to the Bhanjanagar sub-divisional hospital, the third one, Santosh Pradhan, received minor wounds.

“Four of us were carrying rods over the roof when a rod came in contact with the electric wire just 5 feet away from us. As Gouda was close to the wire, he died on the spot and the rest of us fell off the roof and somehow escaped death,” Santosh said.

Police sent the body for post-mortem and registered a case of unnatural death.
