Bhubaneswar: A 23-year-old labourer has died after falling off an under-construction building near Pathargadia under Infocity police limits here Monday. The deceased identified as Bikram Swain was a resident of Panchupala situated on the outskirts of the Odisha capital.
Sources revealed that Swain, who worked as a daily wager, used to assist the chief mason during the construction of buildings in the City. He was engaged in construction work of an apartment at Pathargadia for the last couple of days.
Monday morning, while working on the top floor of the apartment, Swain lost his balance and fell to the ground, sustaining severe injuries. He also lost consciousness. Other labourers engaged in different other works for the building did not find him when they went upstairs.
They also tried to contact him over phone but to no avail. The labourers then followed the ringtone of the deceased’s mobile phone and later found him lying injured on the rear side of the apartment. They rushed him to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
Aggrieved family members of Swain have alleged that neither the contractor nor owner of the under-construction apartment helped them.
Police have started an investigation into the matter after registering a case in this regard.
