Nuagaon: Close to 50 residents of Sanajiri, Badajiri and Dakuda villages of Jakeda panchayat under Nuagaon block in Nayagarh district demonstrated in front of the CESU office and gheraoed it for the lack of power supply.
The agitators said that the problem has turned acute in the last six months with power cuts taking place frequently. The villagers informed that power supply to their villages had started last year only. Each of the families had deposited Rs 2,000 to CESU, but power cuts have been constant.
The villagers alleged that they have reported the matter to the concerned authorities but their plea seemed to have fallen on deaf ears. Hence they had no resort but to sit-in protest in front of the CESU office.
With no CESU official available, junior engineer of FIDCO Suvendu Mishra reached the spot and assured the agitators their problems will be solved within three days. The villagers then withdrew their agitation.
However, the lack of power supply has not only affected these three villages only. Many other villages in the block are facing the same problem. CESU junior engineer, Srinivas Rao attributed the problem to lack of staff in the local office.
