Jhumpura: Amid reports about prevailing poor healthcare in remote pockets, a tribal pregnant woman died for lack of treatment at Jankasahi in Basantpur panchayat under this block in Keonjhar district Saturday evening.
Jema Kudada, 26, was 8-month pregnant. Surprisingly, the local ANM and ASHA had not taken care of the woman.
Such incidents indicate the failure of a host of schemes aimed at ensuring healthcare for pregnant women in hilly and tribal pockets here.
“They were informed about pregnancy of my wife a day before, but none came to give her medicine or advice,” alleged Bunu Kudada, the husband of the deceased.
The government has been spending lakhs of rupees towards healthcare, supplementary nutrition and free conveyance to hospitals, but the tribal woman was allegedly deprived of all such facilities and died.
This correspondent tried to contact ANM Ranjulata Giri and Anganwadi worker Mandodari Munda, but they were not available.
Locals alleged they have been suffering a lot for lack of basic facilities like healthcare, education and communication. Healthcare has always been a major problem, due to which people have died untimely.
Block health extension officer Ramesh Chandra Naik said he came to know about the incident from this correspondent.
“A report on the incident will be prepared and further action will be taken thereafter,” he said.
