Talcher/Kaniha: Vigilance sleuths Monday arrested Mohasmita Panda, inspector-in-charge of NTPC Town police station, on the charge of accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 to quash a case.
The sleuths seized chemical laced notes from the IIC and arrested her. Vigilance sources said a bus conductor Pradip Devata was assaulted for molesting a girl in the bus July 30. Police registered two separate cases over a complaint by Devata and the girl’s mother.
Later, Panda asked the girl’s mother to sign in the notice of the police station as per provisions of Section 41(A) of CrPC and demanded Rs 15,000 to quash the case.
The family members gave her Rs 5,000 nine days back but Panda insisted on payment of the remaining amount. Left with no option, the girl’s brother lodged a complaint with the Vigilance who laid a trap and caught the policewoman red-handed, Vigilance DSP Pradip Kumar Pradhan said. Later, a raid was conducted at her residence.
