Puri: Due to delay in Pahuda ritual in Puri Jagannath Temple Thursday night, a freakish rush of devotees was seen Friday morning here, a source said.

The Pahuda ritual, which should have been held Thursday night, was completed only Friday morning.

According to the source, Saraswati Puja and Chacheri Besha of the deities got delayed yesterday. As a result, the Pahuda ritual was performed nearly at 5 AM today. Subsequently, the Dwaraphita( opening of doors) ritual was also delayed.

The foremost ritual of Srimandir begins in early morning with the Dwaraphita ritual (niti). The doors of the sanctum are to be opened by 4:30 AM as per the Record of Rights of the temple.

However, today, the Dwaraphita ritual was held at 7 AM and afterward, devotees were allowed inside the shrine.

It is expected that the impact of the delay will fall on today’s rituals too and certain rituals may get hindered to finish on time.
