Lalit shines in Jr tennis

Bhubaneswar: Lalit Tudu of Odisha performed splendidly to enter the semifinals of the boys’ U-12 singles and doubles events of the TAB-AITA OTA TS7 tennis tournament at the Kalinga Stadium courts here Wednesday.

In a U-12 boys’ singles quarterfinals, unseeded Lalit stunned fourth seed Mayand Tewary of West Bengal 7-6 (7-2), 7-5. Lalit demonstrated fantastic resilience and fighting spirit to beat his higher-ranked opponent.

In his doubles quarterfinal, Lalit partnering statemate Dishanta Mohanty shocked the Odisha second seed duo of Saphalya Mohanty and Shriyansh Patnaik 6-3, 6-0.

However another Odisha pair and third seed Kaamlesh Rath and Arush Sharma lost to the top seeds Mayand and Sagnik Mitra of West Bengal.

Other results: (Boys’ U-16): D Aryan Swamy bt Sarnaav Ghosh 6-1, 6-2; Ashis Kumar Parida bt Rahul Behera 6-4, 7-5.

In the U-16 girls’ segment state player second seed Simran N Ekka made it to the round of four after beating statemate fifth seed Priyanshi Panigrahi 6-1, 6-1.

Bhubaneswar announced Wednesday their 17-members A and B teams for the upcoming Kalahandi Cup cricket tournament. Basant Mohanty and Santosh Devkant have been appointed as the skippers of both the teams respectively.
