Bhubaneswar: A landlord’s son allegedly tried to sexually abuse the wife of their tenant Friday at Trinath Basti under the Nayapalli police station here.
The victim has lodged a complaint with the Nayapalli police in this regard. Based on the complaint, police have detained the accused at the police station.
According to her complaint, the lady’s husband, who earns a living by painting houses, recently got a job at Big Bazaar mall located at Nayapalli. The couple has been staying on rent in the house at Trinath Basti in Salia Sahi for around two years. However, the couple failed to pay the rent for the last three months due to financial problems. Subsequently, they left the house and stayed at the residence of the victim’s father some months. However, their belongings remained at the rented room. The couple returned to stay at their rented room Wednesday after they cleared rent dues worth Rs. 1800 and promised to pay the remaining by August 8. As agreed, they started residing in the room again from Thursday.
The landlord’s son forcefully grabbed the lady Friday morning when she was alone at home. He took advantage as her husband had gone to the market to purchase breakfast. The accused picked her up and threw on the bed. He also threatened to throw the couple and their children out of the house if she did not oblige him.
Meanwhile, hearing the lady’s cry for help, her husband rushed to her rescue. The accused had allegedly attempted to rape the victim on earlier occasions too, the complaint stated.
