Bhograi: Even as the suspense leading to the death of late sadhu Mahant Narendra Giri of Baghambari Math in Prayagraj of Uttar Pradesh is yet to be unraveled, his link to Odisha has now raised eyebrows.
Interestingly, it is claimed that he was a native of Panishanda village under Bhograi police limits in Balasore district. Local residents Purnachandra Giri and Laxmikanta Giri of Panishanda village have claimed that the deceased sheer Mahant Narendra Giri was their elder brother.
The two brothers claim that they were three brothers and three sisters. Moreover, the deceased ‘sadhu’ Mahant was the eldest in his family. Family members claim they came to know of his death from TV channels and recognised their brother from the photographs on newspapers and TV channels.
According to family members, he had spent his childhood days in utter poverty. 52 years ago, he left his house after his marriage proposal failed and became a ‘sadhu’. Mahant, in sadhu’s attire, had visited his birth place thrice ten years ago.
Demanding stringent action against Mahant Narendra Giri’s murderer, Purnachandra, Laxmikanta and their sisters wished the money and properties of the ‘math’ be utilised in social works.
Notably, the sheer, who was the president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhra Parishad, was found dead in his room at Baghambari Math September 20. The police had seized a suicide note where the deceased sheer held his disciple Anand Giri and Adya Tiwari, the chief priest of Hanuman temple in Prayagraj responsible for his death.
While the two have been arrested, the CBI has taken the charge of the investigation.
