Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Havildar, Constable and Sepoy Confederation (OHCSC) termed a meeting between the agitating lawyers and top police officials held in Cuttack Sunday as fruitful even though the High Court lawyers’ body said that it would take a decision after the general body meeting Monday.
“We’ve agreed to resolve the differences between us amicably. Both the lawyers and the police officials took the decision to end the stalemate in view of public good,” OHCSC president Santosh Satpathy told Orissa POST.
OHCSC Sunday urged the state government and the Director General of Police (DGP), RP Sharma, to initiate a High Court-monitored probe by the Crime Branch into the assault on six on-duty constables by the agitating lawyers on the HC premises October 29 this year. They expressed their discontentment over the delay in the probe undertaken by the Commissionerate Police.
At a presser at the 7th OSAP Battalion near Nalco square here, Satpathy said, “We’ve lost faith in the Commissionerate Police. We’ve submitted the CCTV footage clearly showing the lawyers assaulting the constables on the HC precincts. However, no action was taken by the police against the culprits. Earlier, we have placed several demands before the government during a presser at Cuttack November 3. We had urged the authorities to fulfill them within seven days, but none was fulfilled except for the revocation of the suspension of three constables.”
Satpathy said, “We should be allowed to present our stand in the court. The constables accused of attacking the inebriated lawyer did it for ‘self defense’.”
