Rourkela: A 12-hour bandh call given by Rourkela Bar Association paralysed normal life in the steel city Tuesday.
The bandh call was given demanding permanent high court bench and special revenue district status for Rourkela. Agitating members of the association were seen picketing at some places including Panposh square on NH 143, Vedvyas, Chhend colony square and Bisra Square.
While vehicular movement on the streets came to a standstill, educational institutions and business establishment downed their shutters to avoid any untoward incidents.
“The demands have been in the wish list of the Rourkela denizens. As the government is not paying any heed to our demands, we were forced to call the bandh. In coming days the agitation will be further intensified if the government’s attitude remains the same even after this bandh, the agitating members of the association said.
