Bhubaneswar, Sept 6: A state-level seminar on ‘Safety and Security of Women of 21st Century’ organised by Barsha Swony Foundation was held at Soochana Bhawan here Sunday.
Twin city police commissioner RP Sharma was the chief guest at the programme. “The sense of security is not good in the city. Concern for the safety of loved ones has increased as every day, there is some crime against women. It is important to mention that violence by family members and close ones is more than violence by outsiders. Awareness should be raised regarding various laws for the protection of women,” Sharma said.
Sharma emphasized on the importance of learning self-defence techniques. “Women need to be confident enough to tackle any untoward incident. Girls should learn self-defence. Also, if they are the victims of any domestic violence or abuse, they should immediately lodge a complaint at their nearest police station,” the police commissioner said.
Societal mindset regarding women safety is also in need of change, and awareness among men is necessary, he added.
Information commissioner Sashipravha Vindhani who also attended the programme emphasised that knowing one’s rights is very necessary for a woman to be able to fight for justice.
Personalities from different fields like sports, music, social work, and acting were felicitated for their achievements.
