Jajpur: A lecturer was arrested on charges of sexually harassing male students of the educational institution in Jajpur district Monday.

The lecturer was produced in a local court Tuesday.

The accused has been identified as Niranjan Panda, who worked as the head of political science department at a local college.

Panda used to call students to his room and force them to spend nights there. He used to sodomise the students after threatening them of awarding low marks in examinations, one of his students alleged.

Last year an audio clip of the telephonic conversation between the accused lecturer and student went viral. In the audio clip, the accused could be heard of asking a student to spend a night with him. Following this, a case was registered at the police station. However, the lecturer was let go after a mutual understanding.

After a student muttered courage and lodged an FIR at Jajpur police station Monday, the police registered a fresh case (Case No-311/21) under sections 294, 354 (B) and 506 of IPC. Jajpur police station IIC Manas Ranjan Chakra informed that the accused lecturer was produced in the court Tuesday.
