Left makes it right for Bangla

Mirpur, June 21: History of sorts was created here Sunday as hosts Bangladesh achieved their first-ever ODI series win over India beating the visitors by six wickets at the Sher-e Bangla Stadium here. After dismissing India for a paltry score of 200 in 45 overs in a game reduced to 47 overs a side, the hosts knocked off the victory target off in 38 overs with the help of a brilliant half century by Shakib Al Hasan (51, 62b, 5×4) to win the game by six wickets. Bangladesh thus took an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman who had grabbed a fifer in the first game, continued to dominate the Indians, this time picking up six wickets. Quite a few batsmen got starts, but only Shikhar Dhawan (53, 60b, 7×4) managed to get a half century. Virat Kohli (23, 27b, 3×4, 1×6), MS Dhoni (47, 75b, 3×4) and Suresh Raina (34, 55b, 3×4) settled in, but could never get going against an attack, that used the short-pitched stuff to good effect. Mustafizur was well-supported by the two Hossains – Rubel (2/26) and Nasir (2/33).
