Legal notice served on Dama

Kendrapara: The lawyer of Congress party’s Patkura candidate Jayant Kumar Mohanty has issued a legal notice to former state minister and BJP leader Damodar Rout demanding an unconditional public apology as he has made “false, disparaging, baseless, malicious and defamatory statements and insinuations” against Mohanty on social and electronic media.

The lawyer Dipti Rekha Nanda is practicing at the High Court.

Jayant Kumar Mohanty is a man of the masses and has earned nothing from his career as a political leader except an honest image, the lawyer said. “He could not even build a house of his own and is living in his joint family.”

July 24 and 25, Damodar Rout gave a statement against the Patkura Congress candidate on electronic media, including a TV channel, that the Congress candidate got 42,000 votes in the 2014 Patkura Assembly polls, but in the recent Patkura election, he could manage only 2100 votes. He said 40,000 Congress votes had been sold.

Rout had said the deal was made through Jayant’s brother who was the lawyer of Bobby Das’s Black Rose case. The deal was to pay Rs 22 crore for 40,000 votes, said Damodar Rout in his interview to the private TV channel.

“Damodar Rout has made the offending statement without making any attempt to ascertain the truth or verify the veracity of his statement,” said the lawyer of Jayant Kumar Mohanty, in the legal notice.
