Leopard sighting triggers fear among villagers in Nuapada

Nuapada: Villagers living around Musarangi forest under Sadar forest range of Nuapara district are spending anxious days and sleepless nights after movement of two leopards were spotted in the range.

According to the locals, several persons of the area had spotted the leopards Wednesday while they were moving in Musarangi forest. Some of them clicked photographs of the animals on their mobile phones that are doing rounds on social media here.

With memory of a tiger taking away a baby from its mother’s lap two years ago in this area still fresh in their minds; this sighting has caused panic among the local populace. They have stopped coming out of their houses after dusk.

The Forest department has cautioned people on this line as well. They have advised the villagers not to venture into the jungle and have asked them to remain alert.
