With the beginning of spring, kids are making plans to celebrate the festival of colours with their friends and relatives. Annual examinations are over, adding to the festive mood. Orissa POST asked some kids about their plans for the big day.

Chiranjeev Das, a Class II student at the Ankur Public School of Bhubaneswar, says, “Holi is one of my favourite festivals, and I want to celebrate it with my friends. But my mom does not allow me to go outside on the day.  She says people use chemical colours which can lead to skin problems. I understand her concern for my health. So, this year, I will play Holi with my relatives at home, but yes, I will make some water balloons and throw on the people who pass by our home.”

Priyanshu, a Class IV student of DAV School, Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar, says, “This year, we have shifted to a new place after my father was transferred.  As I am new to the place, I am wondering whether to take part in the festival. I had some good friends where we used to live earlier. My uncle still lives there, so I may go there and enjoy the festival with my cousins and old friends. My aunt makes good sweets and tasty snacks. All of us will play with colours and feast on delicacies.”

Anshuman, a Class VIII student from Cuttack, is part of a joint family, and Holi is very special for them. “I have four cousins, so we play Holi as a gang on our terrace. We play Holi for most of the day and in the evening we all go to the nearest park along with the other members of our family. But this year we are planning to watch a movie at the nearest multiplex and play games at the mall. We will have dinner at a restaurant before returning home,” he says.

Baibhav Biswarup from Jajpur is extremely excited about the festival. The Class II student has already made his plans for the day. “Holi has special significance in our locality and all the family members take part in it. We recently had a meeting to plan the festival. This year, we will use only herbal colours and have asked the children to wear safety gear to prevent any sort of mishap. My dad has promised to buy us protective glasses and caps. I am also looking forward to the delicious dishes prepared by my mom. This year, we will go out at 10 am and stay outside till 2 pm. I am also waiting for some of my relatives to visit our place on the occasion,” says Baibhav.
