Licensed surveyor course in tech colleges

Bhubaneswar: In an attempt to enhance employability of youths, the state government will introduce licensed surveyor course modules in polytechnic and engineering colleges in the state from 2019-20 academic session, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi said Saturday.

Padhi’s announcement came at a high-level meeting held at the Secretariat conference hall here. It was also decided to commence a short-term modular course in the Government Polytechnic here by January end.

Stressing the need for skill and technical education, the Chief Secretary directed the department to make the skill courses aspirational for youths and provide them with the scope for seamless entry and exit with general education.

Skill Development and Technical Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh outlined the key role modern licensed surveyors play in settlement of land disputes, land demarcation, forest development, industrialisation, and developmental as well as infrastructural projects. “The modular course would include survey methods in the electronic total station and DGPS techniques,” Singh pointed out, assuring that the first batch of training in the Government Polytechnic here would commence by end of January.

According to Singh, the blueprint of the modular three-month course has already been designed and it would be fine-tuned with requisites of practical field-based training.

Twenty students each from Diploma in civil engineering and BSc engineering would be taken in the first batch. The course would be offered on self-financing mode and each student would pay Rs 8,000 towards the course fee.

The course would be offered as a part of the polytechnic and engineering course in the last two semesters along with internship facility during the vacations, Singh said.

Revenue & Disaster Management (R&DM) Principal Secretary Nikunja Bihari Dhal, ORSAC Chief Executive Officer Prafulla Kumar Mallick, Technical Education and Training Director Balwant Singh, R&DM Additional Secretary Sangram Mohapatra along with other senior departmental officers were present at the meet.
