Keonjhar, Sept 6: In a bid to attract more tourists, the tourism department has installed quality lighting facility at picture postcard Sanghagara waterfall, a major tourist draw in this mineral-rich district. Tourists can now enjoy the ethereal beauty of the waterfall cascading down from a rocky cliff at night.

Most importantly, the administration has initiated steps to deploy security guards for the protection of tourists. Such steps, which have been taken following publication of reports in this regard in Oriya daily Dharitri earlier, have brought cheers among the people in the district. Sanghagara Unnyan Samiti along with the district administration has executed
the project.

Local people and tourists had been demanding such facilities at the place for long.
“After lighting facility, tourists may feel safe and not be in a hurry to leave the place before sunset. The place turned desolate in the evening and tourists were afraid of staying after evening. They can now at least enjoy the enthralling beauty of the place at night,” said caretaker of a park near the waterfall
Deba Patnaik.

High mast lights have been installed at the entry points, near lake, garden and the waterfall. After deployment of security guards, tourists will feel safer and move about at various nearby places, Patnaik added.

“With the supply of electricity, close circuit television cameras can later be installed at important places. Cultural programmes can be organised amid the beautiful sylvan settings. Residents of the town can also spend their leisure in such tranquil environment and enjoy boating facilities,” said Alekh Chandra Patra, a retired government employee.
Tourist Sunil Rout said women visitors will feel safe if CCTV cameras are put in place at important locations.

Sub-collector and secretary of Sanghagara Unnayan Samiti, Purna Chandra Mishra said more steps will be taken for the convenience of tourists.
More facilities will woo tourists from various parts of the state and from outside the state, the sub-collector added.
