Bhubaneswar: At least four persons were killed and two others injured in separate incidents of lightning in Keonjhar, Boudh and Deogarh districts, Sunday.
Dusashana Naik and Bhagabat Naik of Baunshagada under Anandapur police limits were working on their farmland when lightning struck them.
Following the mishap, villagers admitted the two to the Anandapur sub-divisional hospital where doctors declared pronounced them brought dead.
In another incident, Lipun Sahu and Sarat Nahaka of Padmapur village were injured in lightning strike. At present the injured are undergoing treatment at the Anandapur hospital.
A farmer was killed after lightning struck him when he was on his way to his farm at Bandhapathar village in Boudh district, Sunday. The deceased was identified as Nila Rohit Behera. The farmer collapsed on the road after lightning struck him. Family members and locals rushed him in a private vehicle to the district headquarters hospital where doctors pronounced him brought dead.
Residents claimed the deceased was a poor farmer and urged the government to provide financial assistance to the bereaved family.
A former sarpanch of Abada panchayat under Riamal block in Deogarh district was killed in lightning when he was talking on his mobile phone during a thundershower, Sunday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Ramani Ranjan Nanda of Sanadangaghat. He was on his way to his crusher unit when lightning struck him as he had taken shelter under a big tree.
He was talking on his mobile phone when lightning struck him leading to explosion of his phone. Locals rushed him to the Deogarh district headquarters hospital where he was declared brought dead.
