Locals block road after minor dies of electrocution

Thakurmunda: Tension prevailed in Thakurmunda area of Mayurbhanj district Saturday following the death of a minor boy after he came in contact with a low lying 11KV power transmission line.

The deceased has been identified as Bulioli (16) of Baghamunda village here. He was tending to his cows on the road near Khuntiposi at the time of incident. The minor died on the spot.

According to locals, they had intimated about the low lying cable to the electricity staff earlier. However, no step was taken to disconnect the power supply.

As the news of the death of the boy spread, scores of locals rushed to the scene and blocked Thakuramunda-Anandpur road Saturday from 2:00pm-8:00pm, clamoring for immediate compensation. Vehicular movement was disrupted on the route for hours due to the protest.

On being informed, SDPO Narayan Nayak, Tehsildar Pradyumna Kumar Nayak and police officials of Thakuramunda and Mahuladiha reached the place and pacified the mob. Police have recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. A compensation of Rs 25,000 has already been given and the administration has announced to provide another Rs 50,000 to the family of the deceased.
