Locals brace for stir against move to shift KV

Anandapur: Amid reports that a conspiracy is being hatched to shift the Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) proposed at Shiadimal here in Keonjhar district, a local organisation named Maa Dhanei Committee has geared up for a stir against the move.

All arrangements to run the KV temporarily were made at Braj Bandhu Vidyapeetha. A two-storied building was renovated at a cost of Rs 10 lakh there, and a plot of 8 acres was identified at Shiadimal for constructing a permanent building.

For over a year, locals here have extended all help to the administration in making arrangements for the school, but their efforts went futile when they came to know about the move to shift the KV.

Locals and members of the Maa Dhanei Committee held a meeting and decided to protest the conspiracy.

Information available as per RTI revealed that the KV will be shifted elsewhere as the place is said to have some faults. Social activist Shailendra Patnaik had filed an RTI petition regarding this.

At the meeting locals and members of the committee alleged that there was no justification for shifting the KV. They unanimously decided to take to the streets if the KV is not set up at the Shiadimal site.

The locals had earlier submitted a memorandum to the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) in New Delhi through the sub-collector.

When a notification was issued March 30, 2017 about the KV, people in the villages of Anandapur were happy.

The administration later identified an 8-acre plot near Shiadimalia Dhanei Peetha. A team of KVS had given the go ahead after inspecting the area.

But the RTI reply revealed that the site has water drainage problems and that the number of Central government employees living in Anandapur was less than 500. But locals furnished documents to the Collector and KVS, saying that about 1,000 Central government epmployees were living in the area.

Following the RTI reply, Maa Dhanei Committee and some social activists submitted a memorandum to KVS clarifying on the feasibility of a KV in the area. They had also submitted documents in this regard to KV authorities.
